Hello! I was so excited to see the new Beta feature for Permalink Migration.

A number of years ago (before having a Redirection plugin) I changed all my site’s post permalinks from /%postname%/ to /%category%/%postname%/

I tried the new Permalink Migration today by entering /%postname%/ into the Permalink Migration box (under Redirection > Site) but it doesn’t seem to be working. I flushed my site’s cache at the server level and my browser cache. However, when I type in a URL using the old structure (i.e. https://liberomagazine.com/vacations/) it does not redirect to the new structure where the post is found (https://liberomagazine.com/eatingdisorders/vacations/)

Any help would be much appreciated as we have years of posts that ended up with broken links after my (unfortunate) decision to change the permalink structure without creating redirects.

Thanks in advance for the help!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

You can try using a regular expression if the permalink setting doesn’t work for you:

Actually, in your situation that wouldn’t work.

Permalink migration is marked as beta, and it is possible there are situations in which it doesn’t work. Is there anything else running on your site that could interfere here?

@johnny5 thank you for your quick response! There is nothing I can think of that could be interfering…we do have other plugins, but other than Yoast SEO, none that deal with redirects. We also manage our Redirects directly through your plugin, so I don’t think Yoast would be interfering.

I do realize this feature is in BETA (I was so excited when I saw it!) and I hope /%postname%/ to /%category%/%postname%/ is something it will be able to support!

One thing to note: (and this was the case before trying the new BETA feature), as long as there is an input of anything in the /%category%/ part of the string, a redirect directs to the proper location. For example, if you put liberomagazine.com/mental-illness-stigma-its-time-to-talk/ nothing happens, but if you put liberomagazine.com/ANXIETY/mental-illness-stigma-its-time-to-talk/ it will redirect to the appropriate URL: https://liberomagazine.com/MENTALHEALTH/mental-illness-stigma-its-time-to-talk/

I’m not sure if this offers any valuable insight but thought I’d share this information in case it does.

Let me know if there is anything else I should try as I’m anxious to try and get it to work.

    Thanks again!

I’ve made some changes to the permalink migration feature which may help. They will be included in the next release.

cuando llegará la próxima versión ?

    I have a similar problem:

I am trying to migrate permalinks from tapetenresonanz.de/%postname%/ to tapetenresonanz.de/%author%/%postname%/, but so far it is not working. Do you think the changes you made also affect my edge case?

Thank you so much for your work n this great plugin!

    All the best,
    Mara
