Permalink Slug won't save

  • I have been running my site for some time and all of a sudden, I’ve got this issue with a permalink that’s driving me bonky. Initially it made a slug with too many dashes since my title had dashes in it. I edited it, and ended up missing a letter on the final slug word. Now, when I go to edit it, and I click “OK”, nothing happens. If I try it in quick edit, the update just hangs. I haven’t blasted the post to my social networking sites and I’m hoping to beat it to the punch of getting indexed.

    Any ideas? I scoured the forums and it’s not related to the post being in the trash or anything. I’ve managed to change it twice in my frustration, but neither time was it what I wanted – just a truncated version. Ugh. If you need any other info, please ask.

    How long is your slug? The database type of post_name in wp_posts table is VARCHAR(200) so you can’t have slugs longer than 200 characters.

    It’s only 41 characters long. I also tried shortening it by taking out two words, but that didn’t work either.
