Have a nearly 8 year old blog with hundreds of posts and pages that all use the plain permalink structure (WP default). Will LiteSpeed Cache plugin work with plain permalinks? I understand that changing the permalink structure is not recommended on an existing site, so I’m having hard time finding a good caching plugin that will work.

yes , it works , and also I don’t think it will hurt if you change permalink to other structure , if I recall correctly (and you can test) , even you changed structure , the plain text way , like /?p=xxx should still work

    Thanks for the response, qtwrk!

My understanding is that if I change the permalink structure, every link to my site will break, every browser on earth will think I’ve died, etc. So I believe I’m stuck with the goofy plain text way at this point.

Yes, /?p=xxx is sadly what I’ve got now, and have had all along. If the LiteSpeed Cache plugin will work with that, it’s good news!

    yes it works

you can also set up a stage site to play around a bit on that permanlink structure thing

Good suggestion on playing around with a stage site first. If I can figure out how to do that, might be the best way of approaching the whole permalink/caching issue. Nice to know that LiteSpeed Cache plugin should work even with my current /?p=xxx structure.

By the way, since everything I read seems to indicate that /?p=xxx is the worst possible permalink structure choice, any idea on why it’s WP’s default setting? Seems ridiculous. Or is that no longer true?

my guess is for compatibility , certain webserver like nginx or IIS does NOT have rewrite rule like Apache does with .htaccess that you need edit server conf file which may or may not be convenient for site owner to do it
