    Ok, I have the .htaacess thing writable, and I set the structure to /%post_id%/ and it doesn’t work. When you click the permanent link, it takes you to a blank page.

    What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

  • Is it a blank page or a 404 error? Where does the WP install exist in the root or in a subdirectory? And lastly, what’s the site address for others to look at?

    It’s a 404. It’s in the root directory. And my site is https://onholiday.org

    Oh, I figured it out

    and the answer is…?

    Why is it so hard around here to figure out how to enable permalinks so that the user can see the permalinks link at the bottom of each post? Or is it my theme?

    NightmareHost (I mean DreamHost) not offering mod-Rewrite
    no .htaccess needed (I found that out the hard way)
    permalink structure set according to admin panel example
    what else? tia
