permalinks

  • hi,

    i am a wordpress newcomer and am having trouble with permalinks. when i try to change the permalink setting to ‘month and name’ i am told by wordpress ‘you should update your .htaccess now’.

    i have tried to do this and followed the wordpress guide (which says to give the file a 666) but nothing works. when my pages are clicked i am met with a browser error page saying url not found.

    any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Did you chmod 666 then change the permalink settings? If you did it the other way around, now that it’s set to 666 change the permalinks back to the default, save the options page, then go back in and change it to what you want again.
