    Yes, the plain links will always work regardless of what you’ve set as permalinks.

    Your pages and posts have “canonical” links set in their header so there’s no SEO penalty for this.

    Can you post an actual link?

    Steve, thanks. Please see actual example below.

    https://www.rightattitudes.com/?p=684

    is the same as

    https://www.rightattitudes.com/2021/05/17/really-bad-career-advice/

    ========

    Customer wants changed to

    https://www.rightattitudes.com/really-bad-career-advice/

    I’d like to disable everything other than this format. Is resetting Permalinks setting and the “redirection” plugin the best way to do this?

    On both links, this appears in the <head> section:

    <link rel="canonical" href="https://www.RightAttitudes.com/2021/05/17/follow-your-passion/" />

    What’s odd is that the ?p format should redirect to the permalink (really, just display it, not a redirect).

    For example, try https://bertha.sterndata.com/about/page-image-alignment/ and https://bertha.sterndata.com/?p=1133.

    That makes me think something beyond core behavior is going on.

    This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

    If you can install plugins, install “Health Check”: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/ On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site. You can then use its admin bar menu to turn on/off plugins and themes one at a time.
