    Hi folks,

Yoast removes the /category/ from my categories with no problem until now. But…

Thing is,I have some subcategories that worked well (with url like mysite./ctg/subctg.

Now, this kind of permalink no longer works! The subcategories arn’t linked to the catg anymore (myste./subctg works, the other returns 404)

Could be no problem without the fact that a sitemap is now messed up (showing former permalinks)… And that I want to have the full path.

    What can I do…?
I already turned off the plugin to see but… No, nothing happened, just a big problem…!

    Thanks in advance!

PS: I turned my WP multisite few weeks ago and removed the /blog/ from the permalinks and asked the forum in charge, no answer so far… I’m desperate.

  • Hi Bobbutterfly,

Have you tried to re-save your Permalink setting by visiting WP-Admin > Settings > Permalink and hit the Save button ?

Some permalink issues usually can be fixed by doing this.

Hello you! Thanks for your reply!
Unfortunatly, I already tried with no success…

How about resetting your .htaccess ?

By resetting here, i mean to delete the old ones (please copy or save it somewhere else first, you might need it later).

Then try to hit the Save Permalink again.

    UPDATE:
I just got a whisper from an angel, that your issue here probably related to this ticket: https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/35482

Please read the link and hopefully you can find some useful information there for you.

    Hey!
Alright I’ll check the link you provided!
Just to know and have your alternative in case, what harm could delete htaccess have? I mean, what’s so important with it? I know part of my cache options are in it thanks to W3 Total Cache but still not s?re!

    Hi Bobbutterfly,

IMHO, losing .htaccess means it could break your site. Permalinks won’t work and probably you would get a lot of 404 pages. In short, unexpected results will happen.

So if you’re not so sure with what you’re doing, I suggest back up everything before you delete anything. That way, you can always revert it back and do not make things worse.

    Alright! Fair enough.

Not sure I found the solution on the link you gave me though.

    Hi @bobbutterfly,

The link above to the ticket does not provide a solution but rather shows that it is a known bug and the core team is fixing it.

In general, the bug involves WP not able to comprehend shortcuts in category pages as it does with posts and pages. If you are in deed experiencing the ticketed issue, a solution would be to use full pages to to your categories.

    your-domain.com/category/post

if not, you may have to backup to a known working version of WordPress or try to continue to debug as others have mentioned.

    Hey there,

I just tried to delete my .htacess and save permalinks again but the file is not recreated > < .

Justing Greer, actually, the articles work:

    mysite.com/%category%/%subcategory%/post : works
    mysite.com/%category%/%subcategory% : doesn’t work
    mysite.com/%category%/ : works
    mysite.com/%subcategory% : works
mysite.com/%subcategory%/post : redirects to first and works.

    So… I’m puzzled. Just a bit.

    Hey, just tried something…

I tried adding some dumb words to the permalinks, like “test”: result…

the subcategory archive works. But all the rest doesn’t…

Does it help? Doesn’t make sense…

The problem seems to be a random bug…

To solve temporarily this trouble, I add a category prefix, which worked.

Then, after a change in my category structure, it worked normaly again without the prefix.

    No idea why.
