• My wordpress blog (just started) is at https://www.skipnzip.com/ and uses WordPress 1.5.2.

My biggest problem is that I can’t seem to get the permalinks to work correctly. In the administration section, I have tried several different structures (some including index.php). Each time I update, I get a message saying “Permalink structure updated.” However, the actual permalinks still don’t function correctly. Does anybody know why this would happen?

Secondly, I noticed that I didn’t have a .htaccess file in my directory for some reason. So, I made a blank file using notepad and uploaded it. However, I am unable to change the permissions on it (when I try to change the permissions to 666, it doesn’t stay that way).

Does anybody have any suggestions on how I can fix this .htaccess file?

    Thanks!

  • did you try pasting the wp generated rewrite rules into the .htaccess file?

I hate to post here and be accused of hijacking the thread, but I’m not sure another thread is warranted. I too am having permalink problems.

But first to the OP’s problem. You say you cannot change the permissions on the .htaccess file?

Are you using FTP? Or cPanel? I understand that cPanel puts a blank .htaccess file in the root, so deleting it is an exercise in futility. Normally, though, you CAN edit it via cPanel rather easily, and change its permissions.

Now onto me: I just migrated my web design site from a cPanel hosting environment to TextDrive.

    https://webjones.org

I installed WP from scratch and then pulled in my SQL file. So far it looks like everything works fine EXCEPT some of the permalinks. The Pages are okay and the CATEGORY permalinks are fine. Try to click a comment link or Post Title and you are greeted with a blank page.

I’ve gone ahead and disabled all my plugins as was suggested in another thread. It looks like WP is writing my .htaccess. Would it do any good to post those contents here?

I suspect this may be a question for the folks at TextDrive since it may be something in their environment that is causing this behavior.

Thanks anyway, and OP I hope you get your problem solved.
