• I set up my blog to create permalinks like that:

    2008/12/sample-post/

but after I save the setting, no permalink is working, even on new posts. What should I do?

  • I’m SUDDENLY having the same problem! Right after the upgrade it was fine, but now no go. Help!!

Make sure that your .htaccess file is in your blog’s root directory and has correct permissions. That way when you switch from default permalinks to pretty permalinks then WP can add the correct “re-write rules” to it. Find a great plugin named “AskApache RewriteRules Viewer 3.0” and install it. Let’s you see what your .htaccess file is doing and what rules are really there.

If you are already on pretty permalinks then switch back to default and then pretty again to make sure the rules get written correctly.

Thanks for the advice! Actually I did need to let WordPress change the htaccess, BUT I also had to delete some inessential files. Only then would the permalinks work again.

Now that I’ve upgraded my hosting plan to more space, there have been no issues with the Permalinks.
