  • Be sure you are not confusing Pages with Posts. You would normally expect a Post to automatically appear on your blog screen, which is probably the home screen.

A Page would automatically appear in your Menu if you have chosen that option when creating the Menu, but it would not automatically appear on the screen.

Here is an article that gives more detail: https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/what-is-the-difference-between-posts-vs-pages-in-wordpress/

Update: With the permalink settings in default mode, I made a new “security” page that is working. The page won’t work if permalinks are in any other setting besides default.

I see what you are saying about Pages vs. Posts. This is a Page that I added to the website. I now see that permalink settings are supposed to apply to Posts. So why do the permalink settings break my Page?

Still looking for a solution that will make my page URL pretty…
    Current page URL: https://rmgfund.com/?page_id=169
    Desired page URL: https://rmgfund.com/security

    [password moderated]

NEVER EVER post a password!! Change yours immediately!

If you change the permalink setting and then edit your Security Page, what does it show for the Permalink just under the Title?

If it does not show https://rmgfund.com/security, click ‘Edit’, delete the contents of the box and click ‘OK’.

If it shows the correct Permalink, then you need to edit the link that you are clicking to get to the Page.

First, with GoDaddy, don’t use the Windows hosting, use the Linux hosting. The Windows hosting is kinda crap and does not work.

Second, the non-default permalinks do work fine on GoDaddy’s Linux hosting, but it can take a day or so to take effect because of the weird way in which they handle .htaccess files. After the initial activation, it will work immediately, but there’s a day or so lag before it starts working.

Some passwords are designed to be shared ??

The website is password protected, and the password is needed to view the site. I’m including the information again (please don’t flag!) so that anyone trying to help can see the problem.

Yes, all of the forums have said that Linux hosting is better, so I’m looking into that.

Other forums mention plugins that facilitate pretty permalinks on Windows. Does anyone have information on that?

It shows the permalink as “https://rmgfund.com/security”

If it shows the correct Permalink, then you need to edit the link that you are clicking to get to the Page.

The link did need to be updated, but this isn’t the problem. I can type the page URL into my browser, and the page can’t be found. The problems is that the page has errors with pretty permalinks, or https://rmgfund.com/security. It only works with the default permalinks, or https://rmgfund.com/?page_id=169.

The real issue seems to be Windows hosting. I’ve tried several fixes and workarounds, but no luck so far.

Yes. This is your answer. Switch to the Linux hosting.

I used GoDaddy for years and years. I know their services. Switch to Linux hosting. Really. It will solve this problem. There is no additional cost.

Your files should transfer, but make a full backup of all the files and the database first, if you have anything you want to save, just in case.

There is no solution for you on their Windows hosting. It cannot be done on their Windows hosting.
