    Hi,

I have created a website with a homepage and 6 sub pages that all sit under the home page with the Permalinks setting set to ‘Default’. I have now changed the Permalinks setting to ‘Day and name’ and saved the changes. WP was unable to create the .htaccess file due to permissions so I created the file with write permissions and tried again and now it has updated the .htaccess file correctly. Problem is whenever I try to navigate to any of the sub pages from the homepage I get the ‘Oops link appears to be broken’ message. Any ideas anyone?

    Thanks in advance …

  • the oops page broken when you click on “Permalinks” ?

If so, you need to use:

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Using_Permalinks

Scroll down to the bottom where it talks about the .htaccess content, that should (in theory) get it working again for you.

Try deleting the .htaccess file, then clicking save in the permalinks page…if the .htaccess file’s folder has write permissions from WordPress that should fix it. The file will be created with proper permalink structure. You should make sure afterwards that .htaccess is not public writable for security reasons. Also, make sure to refresh your browser or clear the browser cache before viewing the site after making changes.

    Hi SwansonPhotos,

I changed the permissions of the .htaccess folder to 777 and deleted the .htaccess file and pressed save in the permalinks page. The .htaccess file has been correctly recreated with correct content but even after clearing the cache I still get the same problem!

    Any other suggestions please?

Can you provide a link to the site in question please?

Just been on the phone to my ISP and it turns out that although they originally told me that the mod rewrite function was enabled, it wasn’t! Now it is and the permalinks work fine ??

Many thanks for the help again.

    Andy
