Permalinks update – what modifications it’s doing?

    After going to settings -> permalinks -> save the WP updates the “rewrite_rules” row in the wp_options table. Is there any other place modified after reseving the permalinks structure?

    Depending on the nature of the rules defined, it might alter .htaccess rules. It might update “permalink_structure” and other options presented on the page. Plugins and themes can hook into the process and do additional things. For the most part updating “rewrite_rules” is the extent of what is done.
