• I know that the htaccess file needs updating if you change the permalink structure in WordPress blogs but I also know that the htaccess file is used by MS FrontPage for forms. One of my blogs is housed on a server with its domain that uses FrontPage for the form scripts and so I’ve been cautious about updating this particular blog with page names. I’d really like the posts to be reflecting the name of the post rather than a page number. Am I in danger of disabling my forms if I change the permalink structure of my blog and if so, is there a way around this please?

  • wordpress ONLY edits lines within your .htaccess that are inside of:

    # BEGIN WordPress

    and:

    # END WordPress

If your question is whether or not updating your permalinks will cause changes to items that you have added elsewhere in your .htaccess, the answer is no.

I am assuming your own edits exist outside of the area I’ve indicated above. If not, they ought to be.

Ok, thanks, that helps a lot. I appreciate your response.

Ok, tried the begin and end wordpress but it’s not working – it has upset my Frontpage forms and won’t let them work ?? I’ll have to find another option it seems.

in the Codex, at the Permalinks page, I believe there’s some discussion about working with FrontPage extensions (I think?).
