• Hi there!

since a while I’m facing a problem when trying to translate a review with WPML. After clicking the “add translation” link at edit.php?post_type=site-review I get redirected to post-new.php?lang=en&post_type=site-review&trid=30379&source_lang=de but gets an error message about missing permission.

You need a higher level of permission.
Sorry, you are not allowed to create posts as this user.

    What I already checked:

    1. User has admin role.
    2. Multilingual setting is set to “Integrate with WPML”
    3. WordPress, Plugin and WPML has the latest version

    WordPress version: 5.3.2
    Plugin version: 4.3.2

Any ideas what could be wrong?

This is happening because reviews can only be created using the submission form on the website. They cannot be created on the admin side.

In order to use WPML to translate existing reviews, you will need to set the site-review post type in the WPML settings to “Translatable – only show translated items”:

Once you have done this, you can then edit a review and duplicate it into another language:

@geminilabs Thanks for the quick response. The setting “Translatable – only show translated items” was already correct but with your second screenshot I found an interesting behavior.

So if I do it like in your screenshot and create a duplicate of the review, everything is working as expected. But If I click the plus icon on the list page at edit.php?post_type=site-review I get the error described above. Should be the behavior the same?

No. The plus icon does not duplicate the post/review, only the duplicate button will do that as shown in the previous screenshot.

Site Reviews provides a WPML integration to allow reviews assigned to a page to be assigned to all languages of that page.

However, using WPML to translate reviews is untested and not officially supported. It may even cause a discrepancy in the summary counts, so you may wish to test that also.
