Permission problems editing own events

Since a few weeks my site is struggled by a major problem:
My users can no longer edit their own events. The error message is “You do not have permission to edit others events”, and of course when I give them that capability it works again, but that’s not an acceptable solution.
After all – they are editing events that they are the authors of.Steps done so far for debugging:
1. Reset Events Manager
2. Disable all other pluginsYet, the issue still remains.
