Permissions and Unknown Files
-
Hello,
I am still a novice to WordPress. Today, for the first time, I uploaded my locally developed website to the live server using the Duplicator plugin. I work on a Mac.
So everything seems to have worked out fine. However, during the development process, I had some troubles with ‘permissions’ in using/installing plugins. So I fiddled around a bit after going through numerous online resources and was eventually able to work on the project. I am not an expert, but I read along the way about different file permissions, e.g. 705, 755, 777, etc. All I understand at this point is that 777 is not good.
So after uploading my new website, I noticed that there is a file named database.sql with the permission 777. And now I’m wondering whether I need to change this permission or not. If yes, then to what? For the time being I’ve changed the permission to 700 (using FileZilla).
Also I noticed that there are a few files in the likes of ._index.php, ._plugins, ._themes in the wp-content directory. Not only that, there are a bunch of such files beginning with “._” in the other sub directories as well. Am I supposed to keep these files or erase them?

Any and all help would be highly appreciated!
Thanks,
Ashish
