• My platform is Windows Server 2008 R2, IIS 7.x, and WordPress 3.4.1.

I keep running into problems updating WordPress, updating plugins, installing plugins, deleting plugins, etc. that deal with permissions on folders in my OS. It is like chasing rabbits. Can anyone provide me with a list of folders and permissions that need to be set (in general) in my environment? I am pulling my hair out trying to solve these one at a time when they arise. Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the initial tip. However, this article is not helpful for my environment. What I need is information that talks in Microsoft Windows Server 2008 terms, with permission levels of that OS and the users that need those permission levels. The article cited is generic and cryptic and does not provide steps in Windows.

In another article I found a suggestion to five FULL permissions to the wp-content (and I assumed wp-admin) to the following users:

    IUSR
    <servername>\IIS_IUSRS (for example MyServer\IIS_IUSRS)
    NETWORK SERVICE

The article cited is generic and cryptic and does not provide steps in Windows.

That’s because these forums are for WordPress and not specifically for Windows IIS7 & server administration.

You’re in the wrong place with a specific question on Windows servers; take the basic permissions scheme that WP uses and see that MS provides lots of support for IIS: https://www.iis.net/

My chances of finding Windows Server 2008 users in the WordPress forum is probably better than the chances of finding WordPress hosters in the Microsoft IIS forums. That is why I queried here.
