• Hi everyone

My site https://philipus.com was hijacked a while ago to link to the US Internal Revenue Service. Obviously my permissions were off (though I can’t remember changing them).

Now I have trouble identifying precisely which permissions I need to correct. I have read the Codex on this but don’t get much wiser.

Will upgrading to the latest WordPress version re-set the permissions correctly?

Or must I go through each folder/file and set permissions? If so, how do I find a list of the standard WordPress permissions?

A bit at a loss here, so any thoughts assist.
    /p

  • Upgrading won’t reset any of your file/folder permissions. In WP, most folders should be set to 755 and most files should be 644.

    Much obliged esmi.

Are there particular permissions for the uploads and cache directories?

Use 766 on the wp-content directory and then try uploading an image or attachment. If you have problems, try 767 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.
