Putting aside your distortion of what I wrote (I said open not millions of voices), this is useful.

There is something I still don’t get: isn’t this “feature” supposed to equally act for external links completion?

It’s from links on your site only. See this WP Tavern post for an example, the animated graphic is very illustrative.

    https://wptavern.com/wordpress-4-5-adds-inline-editing-to-the-links-modal

Did I say you wrote that?

So, besides the need of an extra click to get the link opening in a different tab (for no apparent reason), we are also deprived from the previous easiness to have fast external links suggested at the first keyboard strokes.

I would love an update that would make it so the inline linking showed our boxes for open in new tab and nofollow without having to do a bunch of extra clicking.

It’s taking longer now than it used to for me to put links in due to this.

    Thanks!

@khristal23 Yes, that will be awesome. I mentioned that way back in this thread. That’s how you move forward. It’s a good improvement and adding that box will be great, in my humble opinion.

And not sure if there’s a ticket already in trac but if there isn’t then feel free to open one.

I’m pretty sure soon someone will just create a plugin to add that functionality to the inline editor.

    Happy weekends everyone. ??

There are many reasons why the linking tool was simplified, and there are also reasons why you shouldn’t be using the “open in new tab” feature, see this comment on the post about the new editor which also includes sources and and good points.

In fact there is an on going ticket to add these options to the inline tool bar: https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/36312

So if anyone wants, feel free to submit a patch. ??

Is there a way to disable this annoyance? I hate this feature, passionately.

This thread has become a wailing wall, and no longer seems to be about providing constructive feedback, I will be closing it off before it spirals further.
We’ve taken note of your feedback though, even when we close a thread.

When new features are released, the Vocal Minority Directive comes into play, see https://www.ads-software.com/about/philosophy/

As mentioned, there are many reasons why the linking tool was simplified, and there are also reasons why you shouldn’t be using the “open in new tab” feature, see this comment on the post about the new editor which also includes sources and and good points.

This is not to say that your opinion doesn’t matter, quite the contrary, you are the ones who wish to use your voice, so we encourage you to do so, and this is why we have extensive Alpha/Beta periods, with a dedicated Alpha/Beta forum for feedback on just this.

If you truly wish to impact how the editor will be moving forward, then please join the Editor chat on Slack (in #core-editor), or the many tickets concerning it, it’s the best way to get involved with how things will turn out moving forward.
