As mentioned, there are many reasons why the linking tool was simplified, and there are also reasons why you shouldn’t be using the “open in new tab” feature, see this comment on the post about the new editor which also includes sources and and good points.
This is not to say that your opinion doesn’t matter, quite the contrary, you are the ones who wish to use your voice, so we encourage you to do so, and this is why we have extensive Alpha/Beta periods, with a dedicated Alpha/Beta forum for feedback on just this.
If you truly wish to impact how the editor will be moving forward, then please join the Editor chat on Slack (in #core-editor), or the many tickets concerning it, it’s the best way to get involved with how things will turn out moving forward.
