• Hi,

Most of our members browse the site and meeting list on a non-mobile device (PC/mac/tablet) and since a recent-ish update the meeting phone numbers all seem to have become buttons with the visible text “<persons> phone”. The hover over displays the phone link Tel:#########. This works nicely on a phone and lets you dial the person directly from the page but is proving very limiting for all other platforms UX.

With the button not displaying the number visibly as part of the button users are finding it unintuitive and difficult to get the phone number when browsing on anything other than a phone.

Is there a setting I can change so that the button text displays “<Persons> Phone <PhoneNumber>”

With many groups asking people to contact the group for the meeting password now we have received feedback that this has prevented people from getting to meetings.

    Thanks

    Pete

    Hi Pete–

No. The app does not have a setting for that. I’ve found with the browsers/computer I use, I can click on the link and my computer will dial the call. Or, as you’ve pointed out, users can hover over the link and jot down the number (which they would have to do anyway if they aren’t dialing from the computer.

we are finding that most of our users aren’t versed enough in browser use to know to hover over the link to view the number.

A few months ago the section of the page displayed the number visibly which was still a functional link.

We are looking at having to add the phone number to the name field for all our meeting contacts to reintroduce something close to the previous user experience.

Why don’t you put the number and any other relevant info in the notes section?

    Hi @trundlore,

I accept that your concern is valid. Deep down I know the number of technically challenged users (especially with something like a hover/link) rapidly diminishing, but there are still some out there. Heck, I still find some with flip phones. In reality, we struggle to find a balanced between “old” and “new”, and I don’t believe we should always develop the code for the lowest common denominator. At the end of the day, most areas still provide printed lists.

That said ?? I will discuss the issue with the other developers to see if we can come up with a simple solution.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I guess I really don’t understand why the button has to say “Group Phone” instead of just showing the number? What benefit is there to “Group Phone” over “(555) 555-5555”? Also, what if people don’t have an app on their computer that can make calls? It just seems like an all around step backwards in UI. You don’t even have a title tag that when hovering over the button the phone number shows up. Overall this change doesn’t add any value to the user experience. If anything it’s made it worse and has managed to make users and clients mad. All you have to do is change “Group Number” to display the actual phone number and problem solved.

Is this issue going to be fixed? Or are you just going to ignore the complaints? Also @octotoot mentioned adding the phone number into the notes. Why is that a reasonable solution? Why should you have to add the phone number twice to get the desired result when you can just switch the phrase “Group Phone” to show the actual phone number?
