• Hi!

Great plugin! We use Flickr for our public photos and this is a fabulous way to share our content on our website – thank you!

I am working on some web updates and noticed that our captions are no longer showing up. In the “settings” section, I’ve tried the following:

    1. Turning captions – ON
    2. Turning descriptions – ON
    3. Turning BOTH (at the same time) – ON

But the captions are still not appearing. I DO see the photo title when I hover when over the grid and at the top in the lightbox.

I admit that our captions are long, but it would be nice to see them – if nothing else, in the lightbox form.

Any help would be greatly appreciated:

  • Same problem here…

Your site has all the photos with caption = false
    Are they enabled from settings?

    Thank you

How can I enable [caption = "true"]?

    Thanks!

On Flickr – I have “Title” and “Description”. I want to be able to show the “Description”. Please.

    Thank you.

Sorry, I forgot to mention. When I click on the photo. It only show the “Title” name. Would be nice to show the “Description” instead.

Thank you again so much. I understand you are busy. Appreciate your hard work.

Yes, I’m having the same issue. The description is not showing with any setting combination.

My website is private, under development so I can’t share a link.

You mentioned WordPress being set to caption = false … where do I find this, I haven’t been able to find any setting regarding this.

    Thanks!

Is there an update on this?

You can use captions=”true” in the shortcodes, or activate this options from the settings page.

    Consider that:

Caption = false, Description = true =>Nothing appears
Caption = true, Description = false => Only the title is shown
Caption = true, Description = true => The title AND the description are shown

Do you want to show only the description, or you have some problems in the (true, true) case?

    Thanks

These caption and description settings only seem to affect the thumbnail grid hover states rather than what is displayed in the colorbox or swipebox overlay. Is there a way to choose what is displayed in the slideshows, such as the caption as the title and then the description for the photo?

In my case I only want to show either the captions or descriptions when hovering over the thumbnails, but then the both the caption/title and the description above or below the image in the colorbox.

Yes, I’d like to show Descriptions in the lightbox.

It is not working to show descriptions in the lightbox, even though I’ve check all the boxes.

    Thanks!

I have the same problem. The title appears in the swipebox/colorbox display but not the description.
I can put up with the poor title overlay on mouseover of the thumbs if I can get the description to show on the full size photos, but it would be best just to be able to show the description and nothing else. And nothing on the thumbs either.
I have set both captions and descriptions to true in settings and in the shortcode.

Doesn’t work, only shows ‘title’. (https://www.tofuprod.com/food/bestia)

Yes I want to show only the description. As I said.
And I want it to appear on the enlarged album display. ie the large photos, and nothing to appear on the thumbs

The caption appears there but I don’t want that. As we upload a lot of photos I don’t want to have to change all the default captions/file names.

The complex set of true and false settings is not a good idea (and is not mentioned in the settings). The check boxes in settings should just do what they say and not depend on each other.

So… there should be complete freedom to choose captions and descriptions on thumbs or full size images.

Anyway the descriptions are not showing on the full size pictures, which is what I want.

I have seen how it can be implemented. There is only a problem:

    * Colorbox doesn’t support descriptions
    * Swipebox doesn’t support descriptions

Theoretically, I can modify them to be able to show descriptions. But in this way the descriptions will be only available with “Provide Colorbox” and “Provide Swipebox”. Any swipebox or colorbox library that you may include (or another plugin may include), will affect this description behaviour.

What do you think about that?

I had no idea they didn’t support descriptions. I think if you include that very clearly in the description or settings of the plugin it would make users feel slightly better about things!

Perhaps the authors of Color/Swipebox could be encouraged to implement descriptions?

Is there any other lightbox you could add to the plugin which does implement descriptions?

For thumbnails is it not possible to have independent choice of title or description?
