Photo opens in new browser tab

Well I can say I was looking forward to using this plugin because I like PrettyPhoto…however, on two separate test sites, the image simply opens in a new browser tab and not in the prettyPhoto lightbox. I even disabled all plugins to make sure there was no conflict, but still not working.
