actually, it seems to work fine with the picture as long as i haven’t “smushed” it with smushit. I’ve never had problems with smushit before, anybody had this problem?? I typically use a program called resizeit to get my image smaller(that one uploads fine) and then i smushit(this one does not).

Stop using smushit locally and try the plugin: https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/wp-smushit/

O wow, that’s cool. Although it says it is broken with 3.0, is that true??

No idea. The disadvantage of the Compatibility rating is that it’s skewed towards “broken” – primarily because people rarely return to a plugin page to register that it worked. Also, it takes no account of plugin conflicts, theme issues and simple user mistakes. It was downloaded 352 times last week so I can only assume that some people are happy with it.

Either way, you need to stop using smushit locally. Your only other option is to use a freeware graphics package like GIMP or IrfanView.

I’m getting a media.php on line 253 fatal memory error on WP 3.0.1 with or without smush it activated

furthermore I get the fatal memory error media.php on line 253 with twenty ten running and zero plugins running.

WP 3.0.1 on Hostgator account (client site)

    64M memory in php.ini

Hostgator shared plans do not allow a memory level higher than 64M, so if raising the memory limit is the only answer then Hostgator is going to lose a lot of WordPress customers.
