    I have been attempting to perform 5 Photocrati updates shown in my dashboard (not my plugins) for several months. Each time I click on Update it starts the process but then, after it seems to get through all the steps, I get an error message;

A background request to WordPress was just blocked for the URL https://website.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php. If this occurred as a result of an intentional action, you may consider whitelisting the request to allow it in the future.
    Whitelist this action/ Dismiss

I click whitelist each time and when I retry to update after whitelisting I get the same error and the update log shows where the fault begins:

Performing stage “activate” request for “<All>”…Failed [“Forbidden”].
Completed stage “activate” for (0) “photocrati-nextgen-plus”. Next stage is “activate”.
Performing stage “activate” request for “<All>”…Failed [“Forbidden”].

Completed stage “activate” for (4) “photocrati-nextgen_pro_lightbox_legacy”. Next stage is “activate”.
Completed queue for stage “activate”, next queue stage is “cleanup”.

Skipping (4) “photocrati-nextgen_pro_lightbox_legacy” in stage “activate” while performing stage “cleanup”…
    Update Completed.

I have continued to get the same message that the update is complete, but it never does finish. On the plugins page NextGEN Plus by Photocrati does not show it needs updating. It shows Version 1.3.13 and I don’t know if that is the current version? What am I updating in the DASHBOARD Photocrati Updates? How do I proceed to get the Updates to install?
    Thank you Matoca

  • General rule of thumb:
For assistance/support regarding NextGEN Plus and/or Pro please submit a support request from your Photocrati member area as no support for the paid versions is provided here really.

I had the same problem, the update failed over and over again. What i did was downloading the updated version from the Imagely.com site (Download link in your membera area) and then installing it manually.

    1) Deactivate the NextGen Plus/Pro plugin in your WP Dashboard

    2) Unzip the archive, upload the contents to your /wp-content/plugins folder overwriting the old files

    3) Back to your WP Dashboard -> Plugins. When checking you should see the new version of NextGen waiting to be activated. Activate it and be done with it.

You might as well file a support request but the above turned out to be the quickest solution for me and i hope that the next update will be less of a mess ??

    Toto,
Thank you for your quick response!

After some stumbling around with Filezilla I was able to accomplish this update! Thank you so much for your help. Now I know how to do this for myself the next time!

@totohabschned – Thanks for the assist here!

@https://www.ads-software.com/support/profile/matoca – Although @totohabschned is correct, it is best to contact our support team directly; but, as a quick note, we are currently only seeing this in a very limited scope of a security plugin and its “new” application firewall feature set.

To discuss this further please do send us a support request.

    Thanks!

    Cais,
Thank you. I found the Photocrati website confusing to find the correct support area. If there was a direct link from the plugin that would help.

I also couldn’t find what the correct # version is supposed to be. In the plugins in my dashboard, the plugin showed that it was correct, there was no update needed. The only place an “update available” showed up was in the dashboard as 5 updates Photocrati. I would click update, it would process and then it would say Upgrade Success. So I could never be sure if I had actually upgraded or needed to upgrade.

I just haven’t had the time to go deeper than that for months.

….in a very limited scope of a security plugin and its “new” application firewall feature set.

That’d explain alot. I am using that plugin and afaik they added the web application firewall way before the NextGen update became available.

@totohabschned – That reads a bit our of context (probably because I could have used better wording *grin*) …

… we have found this update issue (which is not related to NextGEN Gallery, thus the support request recommendation) to be almost entirely to do with one specific security plugin (I would prefer not to name names in this case as it could just be coincidental) and its new “LFI” feature set. If that option is not used all reports of the update issue are resolved.

@photocrati – Thanks for the info, i’ll keep that in mind just in case the next update of NextGEN Plus shows the same issue on my site.
