• After about three months and half a dozen theme re-designs, I think I’m finally happy with the way my website looks:

    Galen Evans, Photographer

As a photographer, I wanted to come up with a solution that would showcase my work, but still allow me to have regularly updated informational content – WordPress seemed to meet all of my needs, and then some. The actual “blog” is in the News & Information section, but the entire site is built on WP with the exception of:

The “Client Proofs” area is powered by Coppermine Gallery; I was able to design the theme to match my WordPress theme.

“Event Ordering” links to Photoreflect.com, a company that handles my large event ordering needs. Sadly, their them selection is lacking and they don’t allow for custom theming.

What may be of interest to other users is that I’ve been able to create a static home page, secondary pages with a bottom bar, and post pages with a sidebar.

Take a look and let me know what you think!

    Galen

  • Thank you so much. I was trying to figure out how to do it since I bought it , but I gave up and bought another theme (Dark Atlantica https://themeforest.net/item/dark-atlantica-wordpress-portfolio-wp-theme/50415) which I like but I think that I want to combine the two. I am thinking of waiting for the wp version but I hate to buy it again even though it is a different version. I will try your suggestions and see how it goes. My theme already is using a jquery slider. So hopefully it won’t be too difficult. Thanks for the suggestions.

I think the site looks great!

As folks mentioned already, I would do something with that H2 in the top right. I understand you want them for SEO purposes but they look like nav items. You could probably make them links by using hotspots on an image.

Also, I certainly understand the reluctance of allowing right clicks for a photography site but I agree with others on here that disabling it is a bad idea. To mitigate some of your concerns, could you just add a watermark or copyright footer on each photo?

Wow, it looks amazing, I am really impressed that you can do all this on WordPress!

whoa! this is one of the best ones out there!

    great job!

Extremely nice site! Truly one of the best I’ve seen.

Thanks to all of you for your recommendations, as well as your praise. I think I’ve been able to incorporate all of your recommendations, including ditching the right-click copy protection. Never knew that was an issue until I Googled it, but I guess that’s how we learn. ??

    Regards,
    G.
