Photon Deactivated but Still Uploading Images to CDN

  • I want to preface this by saying I just recently changed host, but I know well enough the host shouldn’t be the issue here. Since I switched over everything looked fine, then when I started my first post and uploaded images to use with Tiled Mosiac from Jetpack (which I always used with Photon off) I noticed I was getting some resized images not loading. When I turned off Tiled Mosiac it all switched back to the default Thumbnail View and it worked fine. Turned it back on and I have missing images.

    Upon further inspection I can see in the source code that the images source is being called from wp.com when it should be called from my new host.

    What I don’t understand is why it’s doing this when I have Photon deactivated. It was never turned on to begin with so why now is it using CDN? And how can I fix this?

    Hi,

    Tiled Galleries requires uses the Photon CDN, whether or not Photon is active, since WordPress core doesn’t provide for the dynamic resizing that is needed for the tiled galleries.

    What may have happened is you switched hosts and updated your DNS to reflect this. Depending on the exact timetable, you published the post, but Photon still has the previous host’s IP address in the cache. We check for the new images, which don’t exist on the old server, so we return the broken image.

    Since we cache everything there, the broken images would display longer than expected.

    I’ll reset the images loaded on that page, which get us moving forward.
