For several months already, I’ve noticed that my RSS feed is not updating when my Photonic plugin is activated. When I deactivate it and activate it again, my latest articles reach my feedreader Feedly. I am running the latest version of the plugin, and WordPress 6.1.1. Could there be some incompatibility with the Photonic plugin or is there some other issue?

I am not aware of any conflict, and I would be surprised if there was any. Photonic does not run any processes in the background and will not interfere with any backend operations, RSS in particular. It literally is a gallery and lightbox plugin with no other function. Case in point: I use MailChimp subscriptions for the demo site, and that has no issues reading latest posts.

The only thing I can suggest is going to Photonic → Settings → Generic Options → Advanced → Increase cURL timeout, and bumping that value up to something like 60, in case there is some sort of timeout happening when your feed reader is trying to build the feed.

BTW, I see from your website that you have several plugins that do things that interfere with Photonic behaviour (e.g. you have a lazy loading plugin). You might want to reconsider using them.

Sayontan, thank you for your quick response. I am trying to pinpoint the problem and the only thing I’ve noticed is that my new articles reach my Feedly once I deactivate and reactivate Photonic. I don’t know if it’s related in any way, but I’ve noticed that in my Google Search Console, Photonic plugin is the only thing listed under “Blocked due to access forbidden (403).” The date is November 19, 2022.

I will change the setting that you’ve suggested and see how it works.

As for the lazy load plugin, I actually don’t have one (I was using that years ago). I do have the lazy load functionality, but not through a plugin. I am striving to minimize the number of plugins, as I know they can conflict and cause problems.

Thank you for your time and help.

Which page of with Photonic gives you this error? If it is a plugin administration page, then it should rightfully give you this error. If it is a page visible to regular visitors, that would be a cause for concern.

OK – you might want to see if it is causing issues. E.g. I took one of your old posts (something you had provided about 5 years back on a different Photonic topic). This page shows me a bunch of errors on the web console coming from a different plugin. In addition, I see that the Photonic markup is getting new attributes such as ezimgfmt, which is reducing the resolution of your images. See an example with the attribute and without – the second image is a lot more sharp.

    Hi Sayontan,

The error is in Google Search Console –> Pages –> Blocked due to access forbidden (403). It’s just something I noticed, it could be that it has nothing to do with the RSS issue.

Anyways, thank you for taking the time to look into this and confirming that there is no problem with the plugin. I will look further into this issue and test other features on my site, such as the lazy load option.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Sayontan,

I have tried disabling caching for my feed URL, putting it as an exception, so I’ll see if it solves the problem. I’ll know when I publish my next article.

    Hi Sayontan,

Just to let you know, caching was the problem in this case. I put my feed URL to be excluded from caching and the problem seems to have been fixed. My previous deactivating and activating the Photonic plugin was probably clearing the cache in some way, so I thought that the plugin was the problem, even though it was not.

Thank you for your help and prompt responses. You are doing an amazing job with the Photonic plugin.

    Kind regards,

    Marija
