Photos in blog posts appear twice

I am using a static front page, with my Posts page set to Blog (under Settings > Reading > Post Page). Each post starts with a photo and most have a Read More separator inserted under the first paragraph.

To get each opening photo to appear, I have to set it to featured image. But then when I read the posts, the photos appear twice in succession. Can anyone help?

I’m using the Ascent theme. My site is speakbusinesscomm.com.
