• Our website was moved by the host in April to a new hosting package. After the move we had missing pages and missing photos. We recently got most of these problems resolved, however, there are no photos in my WordPress Media Library. I have searched the forum and found many similar issues, but I am inexperienced and am having difficulty understanding how these issues were fixed.

When I go to my dashboard and select Media Library, and click on the placeholder, I can see the URL and the title. But there is no photo. I uploaded a new photo to see what would happen and I have the same thing, I see the URL and title, but no photo. I’ve tried inserting a photo into a page from the media library and nothing happens. If I try to edit a photo I get this messsage: Image data does not exist. Please re-upload the image.

My photos are still showing on most of my pages, with the exception of the Photo Gallery page and the Adena Springs child page.

The website is https://secretariatfestival.com if that is relevant.

I hope someone can direct me on what I need to do to get this issue fixed.

I would be most grateful for any assistance. Thanks!

  • Hi,

Go to the Settings > Media page and uncheck the Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders option hit the ‘Save Changes’ button.

Now try again to upload images from your Media Library.

Thanks so much for responding Fahid.

I tried your suggestion and nothing seems to happen. It acts as though it is uploading an image on the page, it even seems to create a space, however, nothing appears on the page, not even a placeholder.

I went back to the media files and clicked on a photo to see attachment details, then I clicked edit file and the photo appears. I tried saving it to see if would appear in the library, but when I go back to the media library again there is still just a place holder, and nothing appears on the page when I add media.

Also, I found that when I am in the media library there are two options to view the files, a list and a grid. When I select the list I can see thumbnails of the photos, but when when I select grid, I only get the placeholder. Also, when using upload from media library on a page, it seems to default to the grid.

Any other thoughts. I know the photos are in my database, as they are still linked to the pages in most cases.

If I use the upload from a URL option, the photo will appear in the page. I added a photo on my About Us page using this option. But its not feasible to do this going forward.

I believe I have more than 400 photos in my library.

    EUREKA! EUREKA!

To all those of you struggling with missing old images from your media library, just type this in your browser and log in with your details.

    https://yourdomain.files.wordpress.com”

where your domain should be the name of your site/domain. You will be redirected to “https://yourdomain.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php”

It works like a charm for me. Hope it helps you out.
    Have a good one
