• So there have been lost of posts on this one: Suddenly you can’t upload images and get and error:

“” has failed to upload due to an error
File is empty. Please upload something more substantial. This error could also be caused by uploads being disabled in your php.ini or by post_max_size being defined as smaller than upload_max_filesize in php.ini.

But here’s a different twist. On a blog I administer, this is happening for one user only — and only on one computer. If she logs in on another computer, she can upload images.

Haven’t tried another user loggin on to her machine. Maybe should do that. Also other users are operating from the same office/IP.

How could this be specific to a computer?

    Thoughts?

  • I’d imagine that it was far more likely to be something wrong with the images she’s been trying to upload. another possibility is that there is something in her browser/machine’s config that is causing a problem.

Well, she e-mailed me the image and I just uploaded it. That’s what I thought, too. But it seems OK.

Any idea what sort of browser setting it might be?

    Pretty sure she’s using Safari

Can she try another browser? Is this a Mac or a PC?

    It’s a Mac. I’m asking.

She’s currently trying logging on as another user in her office who is currently able to upload images.

    I’m guessing that won’t help.

Nope, the other user can’t upload on her machine.

I should point out that she was able to upload images a couple of days ago. She’s not aware of having changed anything between then and now.

If she still has problems when logged in as another user, then it pretty much ties it down to a machine-specific problem. If she can upload fine when logged in as another user, then perhaps her cookies have become corrupted – in which case a cache and cookie clear-out might help.

the other user can’t upload on her machine.

Definitely machine-specific, then. I’d be looking at her firewall and browser settings if it was me

She has Firefox and is going to try that.

So it worked — she could upload with Firefox!

    Thanks, for your help esmi!

That was great. Like live tech support!

I’ll check out her Safari settings when I get a chance and see if I can figure out what it might be.

Glad to hear that you managed to pin it down at last ??

When Wordpess stores cookies, are they specific to a browser?

As far as I am aware, all cookies are browser-specific – not just WP ones.

She doesn’t think she changed any settings in Safari … maybe I’ll start by clearing the cache and then all the cookies and see if that does anything.

    I’ll report back for posterity.
