    I have just tried upgrading PHP from PHP 7.1.12 to PHP 7.2 for my website. It crashed and displayed the following message:

    Warning: Unknown: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0

    Fatal error: Unknown: Failed opening required ‘/home/content/p3pnexwpnas07_data02/81/2600381/html/wordfence-waf.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/php72/pear’) in Unknown on line 0

    Is PHP 7.2 incompatible with WordFence?

    The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @tatami3lri,

    Could you please try and manually remove the firewall setup then carry out the optimization procedure again.

    Thanks for your suggestion, wfyann. I will try this tomorrow but it looks quite scary because my host is SiteGround so it sounds like I’ll need to get around the lack of user.ini support.

    Before I start, please could you let me know if having manually removed the firewall setup I will need to reinstall the WordFence plugin.

    @tatami3lri,

    Removing the firewall setup will “only” cause the Firewall Protection Level to switch (back) to “Basic WordPress Protection”; the plugin itself will remain installed and active.

    I have just tried to remove extended protection by clicking on the button you suggested. After 5 minutes I was returned a message saying that that hadn’t worked. So I followed the alternative route suggested on the page and checked “Delete Wordfence tables and data on deactivation” near the bottom of the Wordfence options page. I then deactivated Wordfence. This immediately returned the following message:

    Warning: Unknown: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0

    Fatal error: Unknown: Failed opening required ‘/home/aenigmai/public_html/wordfence-waf.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/php71/pear’) in Unknown on line 0

    My website (https://www.aenigma-images.com has now crashed and I have no access to the admin page ?? I have tried to fix the problem in two ways:

    Revert to PHP 7.0.26 via SiteGround’s CPanel.

    Via FTP, move the wfcache and wordfence folders out of the plugins folder.

    Neither of these solutions makes any difference. Please help. This is urgent.
