Sorry about the headline! I thought I was doing a search!

However since I have started this I might as well explain. We just closed our Yahoo web hosting acount and moved over to their Small Business hosting. In trying to install wordpress I find I am unable to grant my created mysql user privileges with the result that wordpress cannot be installed. The error I get when I try to grant privileges through phpmyadmin os access denied using password yes. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a fix?

did you login as user name yroot with whatever password you created when you installed phpmyadmin and then create a new user with a new password, new priveledges etc?

Thats what I did and it worked (like in the codex)

Thanks febwa1976. I am new at this! I’ll try it and let you know if it worked. Can’t see why I would get an error granting permissions to the main user though? Back in a jiffy!

okay, it won’t let me create the user same error (access denied using password yes)

I also found the folloing error on my privilages page:

Warning: Your privilege table structure seem to be older than this MySQL version!
Please run the script mysql_fix_privilege_tables that should be included in your MySQL server distribution to solve this problem!

Do you know how I do this?

I am also kind of new to this. I get the same warning message but it does not stop me adding new databases and WP installations etc. In fact today I installed 2.0 beta and it works perfectly.

    Does this help https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/

Do you know how I could drop mysql altogether and start fresh? I think the sencond warning showed up after I repaired mysql from the manage mysql control panel. Maybe if I started over I could skip the problem? I have tried reload ing phpmyadmin, but to no effect.

Wait you are right! I am an idiot – I did not sign in as yroot, but as the user I created. Will let you know if I you have fixed this for me in a sec!

Thanks I was just about to ask you what I should do if i did not know my yroot password!

I owe you a drink after all of this! Will post on my progress in a sec!

The pull down menu only has my created user password, but not my yroot password. I cannot grant access privilages to my user through php my admin and I don’t know my yroot password.

I think I need to start over. Do you by any chance know how I can delete mysql altogether?

Sorry, now you have me beat. Why don’t you call Yahoo…they are open 24/24
