FTP clients come in all flavors. What you will see with your client (program) is access to a folder that contains all your files and folders (aka directories) on your server. Most FTP clients will let you “drag and drop” from your server onto your local computer. Some have editors built in, so you just say “Edit,” which will open the file for you to edit, then you “Save” and it saves it back on the server.

On Windows, I use CuteFTP Pro, which is a paid program, but I have found it well worth the price (but there are also many free program out there as well).

Tara, thank you for the link. I tried all the solutions listed there (one at a time), and none fixed the problem.

I have used several different browsers, and none of them work (I keep IE on my machine for testing like this, since I almost never use it, and I deleted all the cookies and cache from it).

I also have colleagues in a different state trying to log in and finding the same problem.

Same with my site. I changed the directory name using FTP, so now I don’t even have the old version. There usually seems to be a “previous versions” link, but I haven’t found it yet.

Thanks for the tip, the De-activate then re-activate seemed to work for me as well ??

Where are you seeing “Blog Name”? All I ever change is the blog title and serving URL.

PS. When I click on those links, I just get a blank page back, no server or other errors (when I look at the page code in the returned page, there is nothing on the page).

Well, I tried and tried, and finally found a solution. I saved my config.php file, then deleted all files and directories from my server, then re-uploaded a complete WP 3.2.1 to the server. Seems to work now.

Sorry, a couple more items that may help:

I tried deactivating all plugins–same results.

When I try to Preview a theme, this also does not work. I can activate a theme, but I cannot preview one.

PS. I have tried this in Firefox, Chrome, IE, and Opera. All don’t have the Visual editor working.

You’d be crazy if you don’t:

Add the Sociable plug in .

This plug-in makes it so easy for people visiting your blog to add it to their Facebook/Myspace/etc. pages.

While people can easily post the address of your link to their FB/MS/etc. page, not everyone knows how to, or they may post the link to your blog, rather than to the post. And having the icons at the bottom of each post is a nice reminder “Hey, tell your friends about this.”

Good thread. I try to write my pages with users of screen readers in mind (which is largely equivalent to search engine bots). Here’s my question:

I like having H1 be the blog name on my home page, and the posts on it as H2. (Fine, done, easy.)

On post pages, I want the post title to be the H1 (easy, done), but now I’m unclear how to handle the blog name on these pages. I’m stuck on trying to picture it in a magazine or newspaper: If I’m flipping through the paper, the title of the article is the headline of the page, and the title of the publication appears much smaller. But in blogs, the title of the blog appears at the top (no argument with that). So, I’m still emphasizing the post title with H1, but the title of the blog doesn’t seem like any header level. Does anyone have any success or suggestions in handling this?

My inclination is to create a div with the title “Blog title.”

I need to send an email to a sendmail bot with the following PHP mail function:
mail(to,subject,message,headers,parameters)
I can get it to do everything except add the last parameter (it needs to be -f <[email]> –using the Contact Form 7 code to extract the email address).

Will this plug in do this for me?

Did you try deactivating it, the re-activating it? I was having similar problems, tried this, and now it works.
