Php downloading, not running after upgrade

  • I’m back for a second go round on this issue.

    I did the upgrade install from 2.5.x to 2.7.1, and got stuck at step 9, where I would open update.php in a browser and follow instructions. Instead of opening, the php file tries to download on my computer.

    Since nothing worked, I reverted to the old install which runs fine. Hmm.

    I spoke with the sysadmin, and he noted that php and all must be working okay at the system level as the 2.5.x backup version is now running fine from folder “news,” but the 2.7.1 version in folder “news2” does not run php.

    Whatsup with that? I have the index.php in root that redirects to to the wordpress folder, but changing it to the new folder name doesn’t work.

    I’m stumped. Any ideas about what to try next?
