• I’ve seen questions related to this a few other times, but I wan’t able to understand the solutions. Mostly people just updated the thread to say they figured it out, so I suspect I’m missing something pretty basic.

    When trying to run the five minute install, wp-admin/install.php opens in my browser as code with the error:

    <h2>Error: PHP is not running</h2>
    <p>WordPress requires that your web server is running PHP. Your server does not have PHP installed, or PHP is turned off.</p>
    </body>

    I know that my hosting service (laughing squid) does work with WordPress and that apache is installed on my computer. I went through httpd.conf and confirmed that everything looks like it should there.

    I suspect there’s probably some in between step I’ve missed that would have resolved this issue, but I’ve been messing with it all last night and this morning, and I just can’t figure out what it is.

    Thanks for any help.

  • Are you trying to install WordPress on your server (laughing squid) or your local computer? They are not related to each other – you don’t need WP on your computer to use it on a live (server) site.

    I did download it to my computer.

    The instructions say to upload everything (to your computer, I assume?) and then open wp-admin/instal.php in your browser…and that’s were I’m stuck.

    At that point, I’m getting a browser full of code which includes that error message, rather than the form page that I think normally would show up.

    You don’t need ANYTHING installed on your computer if you are using WP on a live hosted server – that’s what laughing squid is – you do have a site there – or that’s what you are setting up?). You need to install WP on the server.

    Thanks! That’s what I’m setting up.

    I’m having a hard time finding instructions that are beginning enough for me to follow.

    So I’ve been working with this, and I’ve followed steps 1-4.1, I think correctly,

    https://laughingsquid.us/faq/wordpress/install/

    I’ve not yet gotten step 4.2 to work, and I haven’t quite figured out what I’ve done wrong yet, but I am making (slow) progress.

    What’s your domain name?
