php error… trouble installing WP with MAMP

My computer is acting like a total ass tonight.

I downloaded and installed the MAMP as instructed – no problems. Got the database installed and looks like that’s all correct.

Downloaded and moved the WP files to the folder as instructed… redirected the document root in the Apache part of preferences in MAMP. Still good.

Try to open the file in Chrome using the localhost address, and no luck. “Not Found.”

Try to do it by going to File-> Open File… -> then navigate to the file install.php. Get a bunch of code back, starting with:

<?php

(Try to do it in Safari and get even less. )

I am not a nube. This has got to be something simple I’m just doing completely wrong. Any help would be most appreciated.
