PHP error with the latest version.

After updating to the latest version 1.4.8 I’m getting this error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function mb_strtoupper() in /home/pss/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wpforo/wpf-includes/functions.php on line 754
Any ideas how to fix this:
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This problem comes from your server. The multi-bit string functions are not enabled in your PHP, please contact to the hosting services support and ask them to enable it. This functions are very popular and they must be enabled.Installation details:
