PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_kses_normalize_entities()

    In troubleshooting a WordPress issue, I re-uploaded WordPress 5.3 zip and unzipped.

    Now the site has a 500 internal server error and debug.log has:

    PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function wp_kses_normalize_entities() in /wp-includes/formatting.php:4305

    Help appreciated.

    If you not have this file wp-includes/kses.php function wp_kses_normalize_entities not exists.

    I don’t need to update if I’ve just uploaded a copy of WP 5.3…

    if you find that type of error it means that the update has not been successful.

    This can happen if you are in the middle of updating or installing your WordPress installation, and you try to view your site before the operation has completed.
