• Hi, the URL I provided is just an example. I used MaxButtons on 350 pages so pick any one…

The webhost for my site recently carried out a migration. The new platform uses HardenedPHP, by CloudLinux, PHP version 5.6.4.

After the migration all my MaxButtons disappeared and all you can see is the code.

I updated the PHP version in Cpanel to 8.1 but this hasn’t fixed the issue.

    Thank you for helping,

    Henna

    Hi,

PHP version should not be an issue here. In general I would not advice to already use PHP 8.1 ( but 8.0 ) since WordPress itself is not fully compatible with it.

Perhaps something changed to the theme? When you only see the shortcode that means that WordPress somehow didn’t process it. This can happen when for instance it’s outside the loop, not within wp_content and such.

MaxButtons is triggered by WordPress when it detects the shortcode.

Hi, Baz, thanks so much for a very fast response.

No the theme hasn’t changed. As I said, this arose after the web host migrated to a platform running a hardened version of PHP version 5.6.4. And despite my changing the PHP version, the version identified continues to be 5.6.4.

Is there some way I can roll back / use an earlier version of MaxButtons? Just at least for the time being.

    Thank you, Henna

I would recommend running a PHP 7 version. This will work the best ( and it’s much faster! ) in the current WP climate.

You can find older versions of the plugin on this page: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/maxbuttons/advanced/

You can check if this ‘hardening’ is causing any issues in the error logs, but this shouldn’t cause any problems. Again, seeing the shortcode is an indication that something doesn’t work in WordPress as it should and you should see issues with other shortcode-based plugins as well.
