PHP update my website will fall apart (current php version: 5.6)

  • Hi,
    When I upgrade to the php version my website breaks down. It only works on php version 5.6. My hosting provider says it’s because of the template. What can be done then?

    I’m afraid the host is wrong about attributing this error to Mission News. It works well with both PHP 7 & 8. There must be an error coming from a plugin on the site, and if you check your PHP error log, that should point you to the plugin where the error is coming from.

    I may have found the problem. The child theme is causing the problem. If I update php through the parent theme, it won’t fall apart. What to do with the child’s theme to keep it from falling apart?

    If you check your PHP error log, it should point you to a specific line of code in the child theme where the error is coming from.

    I don’t know exactly what the issue is because child themes have custom code and I haven’t seen this child theme’s code.
