I’m trying to host my site (irodalacarte.hu) on 000webhost.com but get 404 error when I try to get to the login page. I guess(ed) the problem is with the PhP version: WP 371 needs PhP 5.2.4 or greater, 000webhost has 5.2

So I installed previous WP versions from the archive in a hope that they run on older PhPs but no success.

    Can you please help?

  • I believe 000webhost has a “one click installer”. Have you tried that?

404 is the HTTP error for not found. If there is version mismatch it would give a 5xx series error. Check you are pointing to the correct URL or your installation is in the correct directory!

Thanks Keith and Sandy! Do you mean Fantastico by “one click installer”? I tried to go with that but it lead to a page where fantastico was offering membership payment options so I stopped. Didn’t understand why I’d want to sign up for anything that is supposed to help me with a one-time installation process? About the url and the directory, at the moment I don’t know what you mean (I used wp’s installation screen that makes the changes (renaming) in the directories itself) but I’ll do some reading to see what I’m missing here.

Free hosting isn’t generally good for running WP, and running an old version is a major security risk.

Like @wpyogi stated, free hosting is well…free and usually problematic.

This seems to be a common issue with 000webhost as you can see here

So, I don’t think there is anything you are doing wrong but there could be some problems on the hosting side especially since the site itself works.

Please i want to know if i can use WordPress to update my website, the site was installed with php script.

@clematrix: If you require assistance then, as per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic. Your question is not related to this topic.

I’m stuck. I attempted to publish using the nopra.net/wordpress. Now I cannot get to my administrative login. I end up at two different sites, IIS7 and Magelia. I don’t know how to proceed.

Dear Keith / WPyogi, thanks for your comments. A friend managed to change something in one of the file names and voilá, login worked. So it wasn’t the cheap webhosting. And then I started to get the messages of php and sql errors, voilá, it’s the cheap webhosting! So I’m getting another webhost now, paid, wp friendly, hope it’ll work smoothly. Again thank you all for your help.

So I’m getting another webhost now, paid, wp friendly

    Good move :)!

@tfporter – you need to start your own thread – this one is resolved and unrelated to your issue.
