• I am receiving the dreaded error:

PHP Warning: An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with www.ads-software.com or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums. (WordPress could not establish a secure connection to www.ads-software.com. Please contact your server administrator.)

After searching my logs, it has been occurring in the following:
    wp-includes/update.php (lines 119, 287 & 435)
    wp-admin/includes/plugin-install.php (line 77)

I am running WP 3.9.1 and all 4 of my plugins are up-to-date.

I scanned the site for malware, and it came back clean.

I spoke with my hosting rep., and he said that it was a programming error (of course), but after reviewing other posts, I am not so sure. My php programming knowledge is very limited. Please advise!

    Thank you.

  • Take a look at this thread:

Although it’s about update to WP 3.7 the problem seems to be similar. Also from what you’re saying I’m pretty sure this has nothing to do with WordPress itself as the error means that your system cannot establish connection with WP servers.

I guess there might be some kind of DNS isssue on your server, maybe also some kind of weird firewall setting or misconfigured hosts blacklist. Anyway you should just wait a few hours, a day maybe – if there’ll still be the same problem you should definitly push your host (admin or support team) hard, because it’s almost certainly their fault.

    Good luck!

Thanks Adam. We are still having sporadic issues, but we are committed to this host for the short term. We may be looking elsewhere soon… any suggestions for a good WordPress host?

Not really. I’m myself also looking (however it’s not urgent) for a reliable and not too expensive hosting, preferably in UK (with UK IP). Now I use linuxpl.com here in Poland and I’m really glad of what they offer ??

    Good luck anyway ??

Although we do not personally endorse them, there are some hosts listed here. Also searching the forums using the keywords “host” or “hosting” may provide you with some suggestions. However, due to the amount of spam that these topics attract, I’m afraid I will have to close this one.
