PHP7 compatability
-
Hi Ofer: Is the latest version of the plugin php7 compatible?
The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]
-
Yes, the one on our site
@oferwald – Are you saying that you don’t support the version on www.ads-software.com anymore and aren’t planning to update it? It’s been 3 years since your last update and if you’re not PHP 7 compatible, then we should close this plugin.
@ipstenu That is not what I said,
The plugin works, php7 gives a warning which people may remove if they really want to, users may use it and even better, upgrade to the version on our site which is free (and open sourced) directly from the plugin (they need to actively upgrade)/
further more, I never said I don’t intend to update this, I have little resources, which I am limiting to support the latest code base, once I get the time to do this.
The plugin does not claim to support anything it is not supporting, and there are no security breaches in it. Is there anything in the famous plugin guidelines that forces me to update it? whatever.
Even in this version, this is one of the best translation plugins out there, why don’t you go and pick on the translation plugin that adds multiple fake 5 star reviews? not too difficult to find.
Your website says you’re having SVN problems. I’m presuming they’re on www.ads-software.com and if that’s why the version you have here is years out of date (here we have 0.9.6 and you released 0.9.9.2 in October), then I’d like to HELP you get that fixed.
It doesn’t help users too much if they have to go download the version from another domain. They could lose the ability to upgrade and it’s a bad experience all around.
Don’t read anything aggro into what I was asked, brother. It’s really just a fair cop when you’ve not updated anything here in 3 years, yet you’re still offering support. You do understand how that looks weird, right? ??
Quick edit: I’m getting the SVN issues from https://transposh.org/download/ which currently says “Since there is an issue for us in www.ads-software.com…”

Hi,
My codebase is now on git, the svn issues were because of the migration plus an issue with the apache svn webdav thingy that stopped working (got into some crash bug there)
The latest codebase is git based and you can browse this here:
https://trac.transposh.org/browser/transposh-wordpressI don’t know if you recall, but the entire reason I moved my development away from www.ads-software.com was the fact that one day, without any prior notification you have decided there was an extreme violation of the guidelines by this plugin (when a user added the widget (again actively) he would also add a link to us (not any different from what facebook/linkedin/addthis/whomever does). The removal of the plugin did lead to a horrible user experience (as it was not there anymore).
This led to my decision to host this myself and trust on me. My intention was to keep this codebase upto base, but a real shortage in time and a weird thing called life and the need to maintain two codebases (not that they are far, but mildly different) was above my ability. and with the notice that this plugin is free, and I provide most of the support for free (in the last 6 month I did have one paid support incident though, and I made $99 for 3 hours of work, yippee!).
Actually I did learn some valuable lessons while developing this. My build system was wrong as I focused on performance and not on being able to debug on 1 zillion different configurations. I need to rewrite it, which is somewhere along the way, when my wife will take the kids on vacation and then it will support the missing source-maps for the javascripts, and the ability to generate the www.ads-software.com version.
Other than that, I am afraid that an upgrade here, without the proper time to support this might cause more issues for current users and upgraders than I am able to handle, mainly because of the database changes that happened a few versions ago (charset changes as per wordpress and a new scheme that saved about half the space for most users)
I understand things look weird, but sometimes, they are.
The plugin guidelines have always disallowed powered by links to be coded into the plugin. Services are permitted to backlink from their embedded content. I know it’s confusing. I’m also well aware of how sucky an experience it is for users to have plugins abruptly vanish. We’re working on solutions, but we only were able to upgrade the plugin directory to WordPress this year. It was a monumental task.
And thank you for explaining why you’re holding off on an upgrade. That makes sense, limiting the amount of work you’re causing yourself. We would obviously rather you merge your databases, as it will help users in the long run only have to go to one place, but we totally understand real life.
@ofer Wald
Hello,
[Redacted]
In my opinion, you should just make the full version commercial (ask an amount for full features and lifetime license). This is a very good plugin and I would have personally bought it.

Ofer:
I have been using your plugin for about 7 years. Over the years I have contemplated others and have even tried a couple, but I ALWAYS come back to your clean and well performing plugin.
I went through the ups and downs along the way but always felt your product, your solution, was the best and I still do.
Thanks for great plugin
Rich
