PHP7 & WP 4.7.3 = ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE

  • Hi there

    When activating the plugin in WordPress 4.7.3 on a server running PHP7 the site throws an ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE error – it fails in all browsers.

    Disabling the plugin brings the site back up, enabling it breaks it again.

    Nothing in the PHP logs indicates why this happens.

    Any idea why?

    I have this same problem. At the begining I was blaming my hosting but I have realized that it was right after a wordpress update. I have tried A LOT of different things. The last one was DELETING the whole site. ALL FOLDERS, FILES !!!GONE!!!. Reinstall everything from a working and functional back up and i am getting the same error message. It is happening on all browsers. The only thing I have noticed is that when I crean the cache I am eble to log in to my dash board, after that I cant open any link from my dash board since I get ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE. I have changed PHP versions back and forth. I dont know. i am fustrated at this point

    I can’t figure this out either but I don’t think it’s related to a plugin. I can reproduce the issue on a vanilla WP installation on PHP 7.1. This was not occurring at all with PHP 5.4 – 5.6.

    For us, the error seems to occur sporadically, whether logged in or not, via regular request or a sub-request, or via ajax. If I go to my home page and CTRL+click open around 25 pages or so, I get the error on at least 1 page, but if I open the tab with the issue, the browser reloads the page (using Google Chrome though, so I think this is more a function of the browser than the server resolving anything).

    Yes, I have this problem, too. After last week’s WordPress update. Tried different browsers. Running php 7.1 memory 256 still getting this error. Does anyone know why the update is breaking a lot of sites?

    My hosting company, fastcomet, whom I’d highly recommend, figured this out. Oddly enough, cPanel itself had an issue with PHP 7 or PHP 7.1. If you can have your host update tot he latest cPanel, that could solve your issue.

    After a thorough investigation, we have detected the issue in question, which is related to the latest cPanel updated. We have located that with assistance from the cPanel team where visiting a domain name over a secure URL results in a “ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE” error message. This has been reported to happen when using the Chrome web browser on Windows and Android devices. The cPanel developers have opened an internal case EA-6544 and it will be addressed within the next stable cPanel release.Of course, they have provided a temporary patch that we can use to resolve the issue. The patch is applied on our servers and you should no longer experience the issue in question. At this point, we have been heavily browsing your website and we no longer see the error message in question. Please test it on your end as well and let us know if you still experience the issue.
