PHPEverywhere onl showing shortcode on first load

I have several product pages on my employer’s site that rely on phpeverywhere working correctly to obtain the proper download link.

Now, the php code works perfectly, but the first time you load the page, you only see the [php_everywhere] tag. When you refresh, it runs like it should.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?
