    Hey forum,

I need your help. I want to update to the new version of wordpress but I want to backup my data bases first. So the first thing I tried to do is download the plugin phpmyadmin so that I can back it up. The only problem is that it is not showing up in my plugins in my admin panel.

This is what I’m doing. I’m downloading phpmyadmin 3.2.4 from the website (the English version in a .zip file) from there I extract it onto my computer. I use godaddy so I went there and used their FTP client to transfer the phpmyadmin i just donwloaded into the wp-contents/plugin folder. Then I go into my admin panel on wordpress to activate the plugin but I dont see it. The only plugins I see are the ask me comment one an the hello, dolly.

Do i need to download a version of phpmyadmin that is compatible with my version of wordpress? Also I tried using the export command from wordpress but I just get a big jumbo of text and random symbols but my blogs are in there but its just mushed up with a bunch of poop.

I would really like to backup my database and I would like some help before I erase everything lol. Thank you very much.

  • I suggest you use a plugin that will do all that for you. I am using WP DBManager from GamerZ. I like it a lot and GamerZ has done some nice other plugins as well.

Nice thing: you can schedule your backups and the plugin will do it automatically for you.

I am glad it worked out for you. How did you fare with the upgrade? Keep in mind to deactivate plugins before hitting auto-upgrade.
