• so I am not that great about these things, but I really like the galleries that Picasa makes. They have a raw XML output.
Would it be possible to make a plugin or tool that you could add galleries that look like your template?

    just a thought.

  • I looked at that simpleviewer but I don’t want a flash application. Thanks anyway.

Anyone know what’s up with High-Fidelity?

Wow… I completely forgot about this until I went searching for a gallery plugin for picasa. Perhaps I should just rehash my code and actually polish it up into something that’s more usable.

Sorry about the disappearance of the site and script, I made some changes to my hosting, and moved it to another domain, forgetting that the picasa plugin was still there. I’ll check things out and see if I can work it into something more usable.

If anyone wants a copy in the meantime, let me know and I’ll zip up a copy I have lying around.

High-Fidelity: I would definitely love a copy of this. I’ve been looking for a nice and easy way to integrate Picasa with WordPress, but everything out there is really lacking in that department. Photo gallery plugins for WordPress seem to be quite annoying in general, IMO. Admittedly, it’s a hard thing to do right.

Ok guys, I grabbed a copy that was in use on another server.

I haven’t tested this with anything other than WordPress 1.3, so if anyone uses it with anything later than that, can you post back here and let me know how it goes?

    Here are the destructions…

    1. Unzip and upload the wp-picasa-gallery.php file to the /wp-content/plugins directory. Then activate it in your administration menu.
    2. Create a picasa gallery and export it using the XML template.
    3. Upload the gallery to /wp-content/galleries/<gallery name>/
    4. Create a new entry and add the following somewhere in the post: { gallery [gallery name] }

When the post is displayed, the plugin will automatically replace the { gallery [gallery name] } text with the thumbnails from the gallery, which will be linked to the full size images exported by Picasa.

Edit: Whoops, should have told you were to get it from. It can be downloaded from https://www.benlyall.com/files/wp-picasa-gallery.zip

It’s a basic plugin, but it works pretty well on my parents blog, which is what it was originally developed for in the first place.

If you’re using it, let me know, would love to check out your site! ??

Ben: It appears to work okay with WordPress 2.01. I’ll have to setup a new image gallery using this. Thanks!

Cheers Otto, thanks for checking it out!

Thanks for re-posting it Ben. I’ll check it out when I get a chance.

I don’t know if anyone’s still interested in this, but I’ve made a couple tweaks to Ben’s script (in particular, cleaning up Picasa’s busted XML automatically), along with modding an upload script so you can upload zipped Picasa exports right from the admin area (rather than FTP). I’ve already started integrating the two into a single plugin, but not complete yet. I’d be happy to share if anyone wants it.

Edit: NB: I’m on WP 2.0.5, and things seem to work flawlessly.

    cheers,

I can’t seem to get the plugin working, when I goto the created page, it is empty. I have followed your directions to the t. Any ideas?
