• I’d be interested in sharing experiences with anyone who has gone through the process of researching a new host for your blog, and how it worked out.

My host — aplus.net — put me offline for 26 hours and it has made me realize how much I am at their mercy. I signed up because they provide WordPress as part of a $120/year plan. But if I have to wait for them to fix something they’ve broken, then I am considering going to a host where I will control the WordPress install and maybe even MySQL.

    Anyone else go through this?

I have to say, this forum doesn’t seem like it is setup for this type of discussion since it is so focused on basic support. Is there some other forum where other serious bloggers exchange war stories?

  • I’m sorry to hear there was a problem with your account. If you email me your info to [email protected] I will escalate this and work to ensure you are taken care of. Aplus.net really does appreciate your business and would like the opportunity to continue to serve you.

I am considering going to a host where I will control the WordPress install and maybe even MySQL.

With most hosts you can install WordPress yourself, even if they offer a one-click install.

Also, almost all hosts provide access to your MySQL database and provide phpMyAdmin to make changes to that database.

If you can’t backup your files and your database, as explained in WordPress Backups, then you should talk to Aplus.net
