The problem I encountered is I cannot upload pictures to my blog. The system shows the following:

Unable to create directory /home/vhosts/bjbarefeet.com/httpdocs/wp-content/uploads/2006/03. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

I don’t know where the “home”&”vhosts” come from. Your help in solving the problem is greatly appreciate it.

  • Hello,

I’m looking for help, too, uploading photos. I have no idea where to begin. In the “write post” box, when I click on the icon of the tree to insert a picture, it brings up a box to type in a URL. I want to be able to browse for the file on my hard drive, not a file that’s already on the server.

I’m not a programmer. How do I do this?

    Thanks.

    Risa

Anybody knows how to solve the problem?

It depends on what you want the pictures for. If you want to put in your own graphics in the header (for example) you will need to ftp the file into the same file on your server that houses the original header. In this way you can keep the same relative path that the header has.

If you want to put a picture in the post you will need to upload it to the server using the upload box which appears underneath the post box. Browse for the file on your hard drive give it a title and a description (for alt text). After you have finished uploading the photos/graphics you’ll see a browse tab beside the upload tab, click on it and you’ll see the photos you’ve uploaded and you can choose the one you want for your post. When you click on it you’ll see a dialogue box with some options:
    Using Thumbnail
    Not Linked
    Send to Editor
    Delete
    Close Options

Choose Send to Editor to get it to appear in the post.

The photos will stay in the browse box for future use which is handy if you want to reuse photos.

Is that what you’re looking for? ??

    Thanks,sweet_thing.

I need to upload the pics to the server so that I can have a picture in the post.

The following post helps solve the photo uploading problem.I was because the .htaccess file was missing. That’s why I couldn’t upload photos to the server.

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/67676?replies=5

I followed the instructions in the above link and changed the permission of .htacess to 666. Then the problem has been solved.

Thank God for you sweet-thing. I was accused of hijacking a different thread before finding your succinct answer. Took me almost 2 days of hunting – but you were right on the button.

Uh-oh. Sweet thing, uploads are working, but a file (40k – 400k)out of my docs becomes only a thumbnail when uploaded, even though I select only “send to editor”

I am having the same problem…I upload a picture, insert it into the editor, and it shows up in the post, but very tiny. It’s only a thumbnail–I hoped to make it so visitors could click on the pic for full size. How might we do this? Thanks.

    Upload the image.
    Click the image.
Admire the little popup menu (sweet_thing mentioned it above).

Now, if you want thumbnail that is clickable for larger version, leave “Using Thumbnail” alone, but click on “Not Linked” to toggle the other values. Once you got the one you like, *then* click “Send to Editor”.

I can probably put it a clearer way: When you click the image, you see a list on the popup. Aside from “Send to Editor” (at the bottom of the list) each of those items can be toggled through a series of settings.

Click each. Experiment. Nothing’s “permanent” until you click “Send to Editor”.
