    Hey,
I really love the tonal theme but one problem I got is that my pictures are loading to slow. When I visit my blog I can see my titels and texts after a few seconds but there are no pictures. After some minutes the pictures finally appear.
I’ve tried it one different devices and with my samsung galaxy everything worked fine but not with my mac or ipad.
    My Blog is https://www.lisaschnatz.de
If you got the answer please help me!

    Lisa ??

Hi Lisa, your images are quite large and should be compressed for faster loading.

For example, this single image alone is over 1MB!

Try compressing them in a graphics program and re-uploading them. You can also try an image-compression plugin like Smushit.

If that still doesn’t speed you up significantly – and I think it will – further troubleshooting steps would be:

    – temporarily deacivate all your plugins. Does the problem persist? If the problem is gone, reactivate your plugins one-by-one, testing the image load time in between each, to find the conflict.
    – if deactivating all plugins makes no difference, try temporarily switching to a default theme like Twenty Fifteen. You may want to make a note of any theme-specific settings or widget settings when you do this so you can get them set up the way you had them after switching back to Tonal.

    Good luck!

    Hey,
thanks for your answer! I really don’t know why the pictures are so large in wordpress. When I view them on my laptop they are always about 300-600 kb, so I guess wordpress makes them bigger after the upload? Also I don’t know which size is best..
I’ve already tried all the other steps so it must be about the images, but I don’t know how to fix it.

Would love to hear from you, Lisa

I guess wordpress makes them bigger after the upload?

WordPress doesn’t make image file sizes larger on its own. ??

When you download this image to your hard drive:

What size does your laptop say it is?

I also mentioned running an image-compression plugin like Smushit above, did you give that a try?

    Hey,
my laptop says it is 582KB and 1252×829. In wordpress it has the same size but 1MB. That’s what I don’t understand.
Also I tried some image-compression plugins but it’s still the same.

Lisa, I just downloaded that pic and it’s 1.08MB 1252×829. You can resize your pics in either the Media > Edit Image window, or else directly on your computer before uploading.

Lisa, in Photoshop, I saved your jpg image as Quality 6 which dropped the size down to 390kb with no discernable degradation of quality as a web pic. This leaves the image dimensions the same but reduces the load time.
